Research-Led Music Gifts for Serious Fans

These music gifts are discography maps built from the credits up. I take a band's or artist's recorded history and lay it out using the structural logic of the London Underground map, so a whole career can be read at a glance and then studied musician by musician.

I design every map myself, by hand and without AI. Not an algorithm - every connection on this map was made by hand, by an obsessive fan.

How do the discography tube maps work?

The collection now covers more than 70 bands and solo artists, from David Bowie and The Beatles to Steely Dan, Oasis and Fleetwood Mac.

• Each station is an album, placed in release order
• Each line is a credited musician: band members, session players and guest musicians
• Where lines meet, the same musician appears on more than one album
• Branch lines mark one-off contributors who appear on a single record

Producers only get a line when they are credited for a musical part. My single album maps go a level deeper, and the Rolling Stones Goats Head Soup map shows each musician's role on every track.

Where does the research come from?

Every map starts with the credits, not the design. My research process works from:

• Original album liner notes
• Session archives and recording documentation
• Established discography databases
• Cross-checks between sources, and corrections from band members and fans

When two sources disagree, I go back to the sleeve. My David Bowie map now charts 167 musicians, and it is held in the V&A David Bowie Centre collection. My Bruce Springsteen map sits in the Bruce Springsteen Archives at Monmouth University.

Some of the most detailed maps, including The Beatles, are A1 only so every name stays readable. Prints are made close to the customer in the UK, the US and Europe, which keeps transit distances short.
