A gift for Bruce Springsteen fans who could not say from memory which records are E Street and which he made alone, because this separates them: every credited musician running as their own line across 21 albums. They own the records already, and this is the part the sleeves never show at a glance.

Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Available in A2 or A1, with US sizing at 24x18in and 36x24in, unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.

I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.

The stations run chronologically from Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. in 1973, through Born to Run, Nebraska and Born in the U.S.A., to Only the Strong Survive in 2022.

Why this Bruce Springsteen discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep

The E Street Band is one of the longest continuous line-ups in American rock, and continuity is far easier to see as lines than to hold in your head. The map also shows you exactly where that continuity stops.

This particular design is held in the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University. It is the kind of present that gets framed and kept rather than opened once and shelved.

Contributing musicians on the map

Nebraska is the strangest station on the print. Every other line stops dead at 1982, because Springsteen is the only credited musician on it, so the map narrows to a single thread and then widens again.

Clarence Clemons has the longest reach of the band, thirteen albums from the 1973 debut through to High Hopes. Danny Federici's organ covers twelve, and Garry Tallent and Roy Bittan twelve apiece.

Max Weinberg holds eleven and Steven Van Zandt ten, his line dropping out after Born in the U.S.A. and rejoining much later. Patti Scialfa's line starts at Tunnel of Love in 1987 and then runs almost unbroken to Letter to You.

Vini Lopez is the shortest of the founding lines, drumming on the first two albums and no others. David Sancious leaves after Born to Run, then reappears on Human Touch and again, decades later, on Western Stars.

Two family lines meet on Working on a Dream. Danny Federici appears on the record, and his son Jason plays the accordion on The Last Carnival. Evan Springsteen sings backing vocals on High Hopes.

Born to Run pulls in a horn section most fans never think about: Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker and David Sanborn all have stations there. Tom Morello arrives late, on Wrecking Ball and High Hopes.

How I make each print

Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.

Size UK USA / CAN / AUS equivalent Orientation
A2 594 x 420 mm (23 x 16 in) 24 x 18 in Landscape
A1 841 x 594 mm (33 x 23 in) 36 x 24 in Landscape

FAQ

Is this map really held in an archive?
Yes, this design is held in the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University.

How are the maps drawn?
In CAD software, plotted line by line. Every credited musician is a transit line, every album a station, and one-off contributors branch off the main routes.

Why does Nebraska look different on the map?
Because Springsteen is the only credited musician on it. Every band line stops at that station and picks up again afterwards.

Who has the longest line after Springsteen?
Clarence Clemons, across thirteen albums from the 1973 debut through to High Hopes.

When does Patti Scialfa join?
At Tunnel of Love in 1987, and her line then runs almost unbroken through to Letter to You.

Are there family connections on the map?
Yes. Jason Federici plays accordion on The Last Carnival, on the same album his father Danny appears on, and Evan Springsteen sings on High Hopes.

What are the framing options?
Unframed, or supplied framed and ready to hang.
