Your Questions About the Maps, Answered

Everything you need to know about how I research and design discography and film plot tube maps, how to read them, what goes into each one, and how to order.

What are Mike Bell Maps?

Mike Bell Maps are data-driven art prints that turn music discographies and film narratives into tube-style diagrams. Each map shows how artists, collaborators, or characters connect across albums, timelines, or story arcs. Browse all Music Maps and Film Plot Maps.

How do Music Maps work?

  • Tube lines represent band members, session musicians, guest artists and collaborators
  • Stations are albums where those musicians come together
  • Intersections show collaborations across multiple albums
  • Branch lines mark one-off contributors tied to a single record

Every map is built from detailed original research - albums in release order, every credited musician placed and verified. View the Music Wall Art Prints collection for examples.

How do Film Plot Maps work?

  • Lines represent individual characters
  • Stations are key plot points in the story
  • Connections show where characters interact or storylines converge
  • Key moments include quotes, events and narrative turning points along each line

Each print traces an entire film's narrative on a single wall-ready diagram - characters, arcs and story threads in full. See the Film Plot Map Prints collection for examples.

Are the maps accurate?

Yes. Every map is built from verified discography data, liner notes, session credits and trusted film sources, researched and structured by hand for accuracy and detail. Learn more about the methodology behind the design process.

What formats are available?

All prints are available as A2 and A1 Giclée art prints on 230gsm premium fine art paper - a textured matte, archival acid-free finish that holds the fine line work my maps depend on. Framed options use handmade Italian solid wood frames with shatter-resistant plexiglass, available in black-wood and white-wood (with red, yellow and blue on selected products).

A stretched canvas option is also available, presented on a 4cm deep floater frame for a suspended, gallery-style look. Prices start from £42. Browse all music and film wall art prints.

How are the prints made?

Every print is produced to a museum-quality Giclée standard using archival 230gsm fine art paper for exceptional detail and colour accuracy. I work with a network of vetted local print partners across the UK, Europe and North America, with each order sent to the partner closest to the delivery address.

Every print is made to order, never warehoused, and arrives fully assembled and ready to hang with sawtooth hangers and rubber bumpers pre-fitted. Full details on the print and frame specifications page.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, prints ship worldwide in protective packaging. UK, USA, EU and other international orders are fulfilled by my local print partner closest to the delivery address wherever possible, which means faster delivery and no surprise customs charges. Full details on the shipping information page.
