Why is this Oasis Music Art Print a perfect gift for Oasis fans?
Oasis fans picture a band of Manchester lads and nothing else. On this Oasis art print the albums run in order, with each credited musician as their own line. By the third record, a Hollywood actor is playing on it.
Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Produced unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.
I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.
The stations run chronologically from Definitely Maybe in 1994 to Dig Out Your Soul in 2008. Guest musicians branch off as short spurs.
Two lines run the full seven albums, and every other one is a replacement. The rhythm section changes three times, the guitar chair twice, and the map shows each handover as a clean break.
The guest spurs are where it gets strange. It rewards every closer look.
Contributing musicians on the discography tube map
Liam and Noel Gallagher are the only two credited on all seven albums. Nothing else on the map lasts more than four.
Bonehead and Guigsy run the first three records together and stop. Tony McCarroll drums on the debut and survives onto just one track of Morning Glory, Some Might Say, before Alan White takes over for four albums.
Gem Archer and Andy Bell arrive together at Heathen Chemistry and carry the last three, with Zak Starkey drumming on the final two.
Definitely Maybe is the sparsest station on the map, five musicians and a single guest, Anthony Griffiths, singing backing vocals on Supersonic. Paul Weller plays lead guitar and sings on Champagne Supernova, from Morning Glory.
Be Here Now is the widest, with eight credited musicians. Johnny Depp plays slide guitar, Richard Ashcroft of The Verve sings backing vocals, Mark Feltham plays harmonica, and Nick Ingman arranges the strings and brass.
Standing on the Shoulder of Giants brings in P. P. Arnold and Linda Lewis on backing vocals, and Johnny Marr appears on Heathen Chemistry, playing a guitar solo, slide guitar and backing vocals across three tracks.
