What’s in My Music Map?

This map traces every studio album released by Deep Purple and features every credited musician involved. That includes not only core members like Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, and Ritchie Blackmore, but also the many line-up changes across decades - David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Joe Lynn Turner, Steve Morse, Don Airey, and more.

Each artist’s journey is shown as a coloured line through the discography, so you can track who played on what, when, and how long they stayed. It also includes studio albums only - no live records, no compilations. Just the official releases. As with all my maps, it’s drawn in a clear tube-map style, with information based on my original spreadsheet research, where I track exactly who performed on each record.

Why I Designed This Music Map

Deep Purple are one of those bands where the story isn’t just about the albums - it’s about the movement of people through them. The Mark I, Mark II, Mark III line-ups, and so on… It’s a puzzle that fans have tried to piece together for years. I wanted to show it clearly, without noise. Drawing this map was a way of making sense of all that change - who came in, who left, what albums they appeared on. It’s complicated, yes, but mapping it helped me understand it better. Hopefully, it helps others, too.
