Two Music Art Print Maps as One: The Smiths and Oasis, Drawn to the Station Where They Split

Two Music Art Print Maps as One: Two Bands, Four Careers, One Station Each Where They Split

My two music maps, as one collection, hold the two prints in which a band that split into two lead artists is drawn on one sheet: The Smiths, with Morrissey and Johnny Marr, and Oasis, with Noel and Liam Gallagher. Each print draws the albums as stations in release order and every credited musician as a line, so the split is a station you can point at rather than a date you have to remember.

These are the two bands people argue about most, and the argument is always the same: which of them needed the other more. A map cannot settle it, but it can show what happened next, in both directions, on one wall.

The Two Maps in the Collection

  1. The Smiths discography art print: four albums and seven musicians, then Morrissey's solo career along the top and Johnny Marr's eight bands underneath
  2. Oasis discography art print: seven albums, 1994 to 2008, the shared stations from which the Noel and Liam maps depart

The Oasis print stops in 2008 because the band did. The two brothers' careers after it are on their own prints, which is why the Oasis map works as the first half of a pair rather than a sheet of its own.

The Smiths: The Only Print With Two Maps Drawn on It

The Smiths map is the one print in my catalogue that is literally two maps on one sheet. The four Smiths albums are the shared stations. Then Morrissey's solo albums run along the top and Johnny Marr's run underneath, through every band he joined afterwards, and the exact station where the two lines separate is drawn.

Four albums, seven credited musicians, and then two careers that have now lasted ten times longer than the band. The print is portrait format for that reason; the two halves need the height.

If you want either half on its own, the Morrissey discography art print and the Johnny Marr discography art print each carry one career at full size, and Marr's was updated in October 2026 for The Age of Everything.

Oasis: Seven Shared Stations and Two Exits

The Oasis map runs seven albums from Definitely Maybe in 1994 to Dig Out Your Soul in 2008, with a Hollywood actor playing on the third of them. The Noel Gallagher discography art print and the Liam Gallagher discography art print both start with those same seven stations and then leave in different directions.

Noel's career continues with the High Flying Birds, to eleven albums in all. Liam's continues through Beady Eye and the solo records to 13 stations, one of which credits 33 musicians. One musician crosses to both brothers after the split, which the records do not show and the maps cannot hide.

Band Shared stations Career one Career two
The Smiths 4 albums, 1984 to 1987 Morrissey, solo Johnny Marr, eight bands, 19 releases
Oasis 7 albums, 1994 to 2008 Noel Gallagher, 11 albums Liam Gallagher, 13 records

Why a Split Is Easier to Draw Than to Describe

Every band biography has a chapter called the split, and it is always the hardest chapter to read, because two stories are being told at once. A tube map does not have that problem. Two lines share a set of stations; then one goes north, and one goes south, and the eye follows whichever it likes. That is the whole reason this collection exists.

Both pairs also carry a credit that crosses the split. Johnny Marr's line appears on three The The albums and on Billy Bragg's map; the Gallaghers share one musician after 2009. Those crossings are what a map finds that a discography does not.

Sizes and Framing

Both maps come in A3 (420 x 297 mm), A2 (594 x 420 mm), and A1 (841 x 594 mm), plus the separate 16 x 12 in, 24 x 18 in, and 36 x 24 in formats for the US, Canada, and Australia. Every size is supplied unframed or ready to hang in a wood frame. The Smiths print is portrait; the Oasis print is landscape. Giclée on 230gsm acid-free fine art paper, drawn manually in CAD, no AI at any stage.

Related Music Maps

The two bands have their own collection guides: The Smiths maps compared and the three Oasis-related maps compared. The other band in my catalogue where one group becomes another is on the New Order map, where Joy Division's two albums run straight into 35 years of New Order; see Joy Division and New Order albums in order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does two music maps as one mean?

A print where a band and the two lead artists who left it are drawn on one sheet, sharing the band's albums as stations and then separating. The Smiths print does this on a single sheet; the Oasis print does it as the first half of a pair with the Noel and Liam maps.

Does the Oasis map include the Gallagher brothers' solo albums?

No. The Oasis map stops in 2008. The solo albums are on the separate Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher maps, both of which start with the same seven Oasis stations.

What is not on these maps?

Live albums, compilations, and greatest hits sets are not drawn. The Smiths print carries the four studio albums and the two careers after; Marr's half runs to his October 2026 album on the separate full-size print. Anything released after the artwork was drawn is not on it until I update the print.

Is The Smiths map a different shape from the others?

Yes. It is a portrait because the two careers stack one above the other. Every other discography map in my catalogue is landscape orientation.

If You Cannot Decide Which Half They Side With

These are the two bands where a buyer most often does not know which side the person takes. The art print gift card covers any map on the site and hands the argument back to them. If you do know, the Smiths print is the one that settles it, because both halves are on the same sheet and neither one gets the last word.
