A gift for Deep Purple fans who long ago lost count of the line-ups, because this runs all 24 studio albums with every credited musician as their own line. They own the records already, and only one man is on every single one.

Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Produced unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.

I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.

The stations run chronologically from Shades of Deep Purple in 1968, through In Rock, Machine Head and Burn, to SPLAT! in 2026.

Why this Deep Purple discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep

Eight singers, five guitarists, four bass players and one drummer across 58 years. Written down that is trivia. Drawn as lines it becomes a picture of a band constantly rebuilding itself around a single fixed point.

The gaps and returns are the best part, and there are more of them than most fans remember. It rewards every closer look.

Contributing musicians on the map

Ian Paice is the only musician credited on all 24 albums, from 1968 to 2026. Everything else on the map moves.

Ritchie Blackmore's line is not the straight run people assume. It covers the first nine albums, breaks for Come Taste the Band, returns for the 1984 reunion and three more records, then ends after The Battle Rages On in 1993.

Ian Gillan's line breaks twice: he is absent for the Coverdale and Hughes era of Burn, Stormbringer and Come Taste the Band, and again for Slaves and Masters in 1990.

Two guitarists have single-album lines. Tommy Bolin plays only on Come Taste the Band in 1975, and Joe Lynn Turner sings only on Slaves and Masters in 1990. They are the shortest branch lines on the print.

Jon Lord's Hammond organ runs from the debut all the way to Abandon in 1998, sixteen albums, before Don Airey takes the keyboard chair. Steve Morse holds the guitar line from Purpendicular in 1996 for eight albums, and Simon McBride takes over for the last two.

The later records bring in guests the early ones never had. Beth Hart sings on Haunted with a Paul Buckmaster string arrangement, the students of the Nimbus School of Recording Arts provide gang vocals on Hell to Pay, and Keith Urban plays guitar on Diablo from SPLAT!.

Turning to Crime in 2021 is the widest station on the map with 13 credited musicians, including a horn section, a fiddle and a squeeze box.

How I make each print

Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.

FAQ

How many studio albums are on the map?
24, from Shades of Deep Purple in 1968 to SPLAT! in 2026.

How are the maps drawn?
In CAD software, plotted line by line. Every credited musician is a transit line, every album a station, and one-off contributors branch off the main routes.

Who is the only member on every album?
Drummer Ian Paice, the sole constant across all 24.

Does Ritchie Blackmore's line really stop and start?
Yes. He is absent from Come Taste the Band, returns for the 1984 reunion and three further albums, then leaves after The Battle Rages On in 1993.

Which musicians appear on only one album?
Tommy Bolin, on Come Taste the Band, and Joe Lynn Turner, on Slaves and Masters. Both are single-station branch lines.

Is Keith Urban really on a Deep Purple record?
Yes, playing guitar on Diablo from SPLAT! in 2026.

What are the framing options?
Unframed, or supplied framed and ready to hang.
