This Gift for Lainey Wilson Fans Starts With Four Records That Name Nobody
Country Girls Rule came out in 2006 on Myspace. Then a self-titled album on Cupit in 2014, Tougher on Lone Chief in 2016, and a self-released EP in 2018.
Between them the published credits name two people: Lainey Wilson, and Frank Foster on Tougher. That is not because two people made four records. It is because nobody was writing the credits down yet.
Then Redneck Hollywood arrives in 2019 on Broken Bow and there are thirteen names on it. The band did not appear overnight. The paperwork did.

This was the research problem here, and it is one I had not hit before in quite this form.
On most maps I am deciding which of many names deserve a line. On this one I spent the early stretch deciding what to do about names that do not exist. Somebody played bass on that 2014 album. Somebody engineered the Myspace EP. Those people are real and the map cannot show them, because the credits were never published.
I could have quietly smoothed it over by starting the map in 2019, which is what most tribute merchandise does. The independent years get treated as prologue. But those four records are why the fifth one sounds the way it does, so they stay, thin as they are.
The honest version is a map that gets denser as the paperwork improves. Read left to right, it shows an artist becoming documented, which is a different thing from an artist becoming good.
Four People Have Been There Since 2019
Once the credits start, they are remarkably stable. Four names appear on all four Broken Bow releases without a gap.
- Jay Joyce, producer, and by some distance the busiest person on the print
- Aslan Freeman, acoustic and electric guitar
- Fred Eltringham, drums and most things you can hit
- Rob McNelley, electric guitar, dobro, and on one record a sitar
Joyce is worth a look on his own. On Whirlwind alone he is credited with Hammond organ, claps, Omnichord, programming, percussion, keyboards, backing vocals, djembe, Farfisa organ, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, timpani, drums and synth bass. Producer is doing a lot of work as a job title there.
Whirlwind Kept the Guitars and Changed the Rhythm Section
The 2024 record is where the lines shift. Freeman, McNelley, Eltringham and Joyce carry on. Bassist Joel King and keyboard player Billy Justineau, both on the three previous records, stop.
In their place: Kevin Nolan, Matt Nolan and Tommy Scifres, none of whom appear anywhere else on the map. It is the only real personnel change in the credited era, and on the print it reads as three lines ending and three beginning at the same station.
A Dog Is Credited on Track Two
Whirlwind lists Monroe the Dog under sound effects on track two, which is "Country's Cool Again".
I checked this against the published credits rather than assume it was a joke in my notes, and it holds up. Monroe is Lainey Wilson's dog and he is a credited contributor to a Billboard top ten album.
He gets a station on the map, because the rule I work to is that the map prints what the credits say. He is currently the only non-human contributor anywhere in my range.
Handclaps Are a Job on This Map
Something else the credits show that a track listing never would: on Redneck Hollywood and Sayin' What I'm Thinkin', six or seven people are credited for gang vocals and handclaps.
By Bell Bottom Country the same activity is credited simply as "claps". Jimmy Mansfield's entire contribution to this catalogue is gang vocals, handclaps and claps, across two records.
It is a small thing, but it is the sort of detail that only turns up if a person reads the credits line by line, and it tells you something real about how these records were made, which is: everybody in the room, at once.
Miranda Lambert, Molly Tuttle and Willie Nelson's Harmonica Player
Three guests stand out, and they arrive from three different directions.

Raphael is the interesting one for map purposes, since he has played harmonica with Willie Nelson since the 1970s. His two stations here are a direct line back into an older generation of the same music.
Eight Stations Is Few, So Does the A1 Earn Its Keep
An honest answer: on this map, less obviously than on most.
The A2 at 420 x 594mm (18 x 24 in) handles eight stations comfortably, and the shape that matters, four sparse then four crowded, reads clearly at that size. It starts at £42.00.
The A1 at 594 x 841mm (24 x 36 in) earns it if the person receiving it is the sort who reads credits. The last four stations carry between thirteen and seventeen names each, and at the larger size those names are legible rather than suggestive. If they would spot Monroe the Dog and laugh, go A1.

Questions About the Early Records, the Guests and the Sizes
Does it include the independent releases?
All of them. Country Girls Rule from 2006, the 2014 self-titled album, Tougher and the 2018 EP all have stations, even though the published credits for them are almost bare.
Why do the early albums look so empty?
Because the credits were never published, not because nobody played on them. The map shows what is documented, and the documentation improves sharply once she signs to Broken Bow in 2019.
Is Miranda Lambert on it?
Yes, for her vocal on "Good Horses" from Whirlwind. It is a single station, so her line is one of the shortest on the print.
Was this map made for anything official?
It was. CountryLine Radio commissioned it as official tour merchandise for Country to Country 2025, which is the only map in my range with that particular history.
Does it show who played what on each track?
No. Each line tells you which releases that person appears on. Track-level roles appear only on my Rolling Stones Goats Head Soup album map.
Mickey Raphael Connects This Print to Three Others
The Nashville session world is small, and it shows up in my research as overlap between maps that otherwise have nothing to do with each other.
Mickey Raphael appears in the research for the Cody Johnson map, the Dierks Bentley map and, less predictably, the Beach Boys map. One harmonica player, four prints.
