The honest answer to what makes a good gift for Cody Johnson fans is a print that shows the whole route, not just the radio years. Why This Gift for Cody Johnson Fans Opens With Four Nearly Empty Stations
Live and Rocking arrives in 2007 with exactly one credited name on it. His.
Then Six Strings One Dream in 2009 adds Brion Bursey and nobody else. Black and White Label and A Different Day, both 2011, go back to a single name. Cowboy Like Me in 2014 manages three, adding Carl Johnson and Sheila Johnson, neither of whom appears anywhere else on the map.
Four names across five records is not a description of how those records were made. It is a description of what got published. I could have started the map at Gotta Be Me and made the print look tidier, which is what most tribute merchandise does with an independent decade. Those records stay in, thin as they are.
Trent Willmon Earns a Line Because He Played, Not Because He Produced
This is the rule I work to on every map, and Willmon is the cleanest example of it I have drawn in a while.
Producers do not get a musician line on my prints. If I let them in as a matter of course, the maps stop meaning anything specific. Willmon gets in anyway, because on Ain't Nothin' to It the credits list him for background vocals on tracks 2, 5, 7 and 9, and electric guitar on track 9.
So his line runs four stations without a break, from Gotta Be Me in 2016 through to Leather in 2023. On the print he reads as one of the spines of the major-label era, which is what he is.
Scotty Sanders Leaves After 2019 and Comes Back for Leather
Steel guitar is not a decoration in this catalogue, so this one is worth pointing at.
Sanders is credited on Gotta Be Me in 2016 and again on Ain't Nothin' to It in 2019, taking steel and lap steel across most of the record and Dobro on track 3. Then Human arrives in 2021 and he is not on it. He returns for Leather.
Justin Ostrander, by contrast, does not miss one, and his is one of only a handful of unbroken lines on the right-hand side of the map. Gaps and returns are what I hunt for hardest when I research a new map, because a track listing will never tell you about them.
J.T. Corenflos Has Two Stations, and the Second One Is His Last
Corenflos is credited with electric guitar on Gotta Be Me and again on Ain't Nothin' to It, where the notes place him on tracks 1, 4, 7 to 10, 12 and 13.
He was one of the most recorded guitarists in Nashville and the Academy of Country Music named him Guitar Player of the Year in 2013. He died in October 2020, aged 56, which is why his line stops where it does. Human came out the following year without him.
Nothing on the print announces that. It is just a line that ends at 2019 while the ones either side of it carry on. They are the credits I check twice.

Human Is the Busiest Station, and More Than Half of Its Names Never Reach Leather
Forty-three credited musicians on one record in 2021, against 23 two years earlier. Fewer than twenty of them carry through to Leather, which is why the guest list is the most quotable part of this print.

One Contributor, Two Credited Names, One Line
Amber White is credited on Gotta Be Me in 2016. On Human in 2021 the credit reads Amber White McDonough.
Decisions like that are most of the work. Draw two lines and the print is faithful to the paperwork but tells a lie about the catalogue. I drew one, and she runs from 2016 to 2021.
Leather throws up the opposite problem: the credits list The Rockin' CJB as an entity, so the band arrives on the map as one name rather than as its members. The map prints what the credits say, and sometimes what they say is a collective noun.
Which Size Suits the Person You Are Buying For
Nine stations is not many, so the honest guidance here is about the names rather than the shape.
The A2 handles the route perfectly well and starts at £42.00. Go A1 if they are the sort who reads liner notes, because the last three stations carry between 23 and 43 names each, and at the larger size those are legible rather than suggestive.

Questions About the Early Records, the Guests and the Print
Does the map include the independent Texas records?
All of them. Live and Rocking, Six Strings One Dream, Black and White Label, A Different Day and Cowboy Like Me all get stations, bare credits and all.
Why do the first five records look so empty?
Because the credits were never published in any detail, not because nobody played on them. The map shows what is documented, and the documentation improves sharply from Gotta Be Me in 2016 onwards.
Which record has the most credited musicians?
Human: The Double Album from 2021, with 43. Leather is next with 36, then Ain't Nothin' to It with 23.
Is Willie Nelson on it?
He is, for Human: The Double Album. It is a single station, so his line is one of the shortest branch lines on the print.
Does it show who played what on each track?
No. Each line tells you which records that person appears on. Track-level roles appear only on my Rolling Stones Goats Head Soup album map.
