A gift for Hawkwind fans who get handed a Silver Machine t-shirt every birthday, because this maps the albums across fifty five years and only one line survives all of them. They own the records already. It is Dave Brock's, and Lemmy is on four.

Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Available in A2 or A1, with US sizing at 24x18in and 36x24in, unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.

I drew this one so that each credited musician calls at every album they played on, in the style of a classic tube map. The stations run chronologically from the 1970 debut to There Is No Space for Us in 2025, including the records released as Hawklords, Church of Hawkwind, Psychedelic Warriors and Hawkwind Light Orchestra.

Why this Hawkwind discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep

No band I have mapped has churned like this one. Lines start, stop, vanish for a decade and reappear, and the print is the only way to hold all of that in one view.

It rewards every closer look, right down to the joke buried in the credits of Quark, Strangeness and Charm.

Contributing musicians on the map

Dave Brock is credited on every album on the map. Richard Chadwick has the next longest line by a distance, taking the drum chair in 1982 and holding it ever since.

Lemmy plays bass on four albums in the early 1970s, including the one carrying Silver Machine, and turns up twice more as a guest decades later. Nik Turner runs the first six and then makes one late appearance on saxophone.

Huw Lloyd-Langton is the clearest break and return on the print. He plays on the 1970 debut, disappears for nine albums, comes back for Levitation and stays through the 1980s.

Ginger Baker drums on Levitation, and Michael Moorcock, the novelist, sings on three separate stations. Arthur Brown and Lene Lovich each take a guest vocal on the later records.

Quark, Strangeness and Charm hides its title in the credits. Brock is listed for guitar, synthesisers, sound effects, vocals and quark, Robert Calvert for vocals, percussion, morse and strangeness, and Simon House for keyboards, violin, anvil, vocals and charm.

Simon King, Del Dettmar, Dik Mik, Harvey Bainbridge, Alan Davey and Tim Blake all take long runs through the middle of the map, and the recent stations settle around Magnus Martin, Niall Hone, Mr. Dibs and Haz Wheaton.

How I make each print

Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.

Size UK USA / CAN / AUS equivalent Orientation
A2 594 x 420 mm (23 x 16 in) 24 x 18 in Landscape
A1 841 x 594 mm (33 x 23 in) 36 x 24 in Landscape

FAQ

Who is on every album?
Dave Brock, and only Dave Brock.

How many albums is Lemmy on?
Four in the early 1970s, plus two later guest appearances, so his line is much shorter than most people assume.

Are the side projects included?
Yes. The records issued as Hawklords, Church of Hawkwind, Psychedelic Warriors and Hawkwind Light Orchestra all appear as stations.

Is Michael Moorcock really credited?
Yes, on vocals on three albums, which is more than several actual members manage.

What is the joke in the Quark, Strangeness and Charm credits?
Three musicians are each credited with one of the three words at the end of their instrument list.

What are the framing options?
Unframed, or supplied framed and ready to hang.
