From The Rolling Stones to David Bowie, Here’s What’s Happening Now
July 2025 has been unexpectedly lively with music news. Not just nostalgia, though there's plenty of that. Between reissues, rediscovered instruments in museums, surprise gigs, and anniversary celebrations, iconic artists from The Rolling Stones to Fleetwood Mac continue to make headlines. Below is a brief summary of what’s happening, along with its connection to some of my visual music maps.
Whether you’re here for Beatles anniversaries or Nick Cave rarities, there’s something in the air this month for fans of profound musical legacies.
The Rolling Stones – A Guitar Returns & A New Album Brewing
One of the wildest headlines this month: a guitar stolen from the Stones over 50 years ago has surfaced at the Met Museum in New York. Yes, really. Billboard broke the story.
And while a summer tour may not be on the cards, NME reports they’re working on a brand-new album. Not bad for a band well into its seventh decade.

Nick Cave – Grinderman Lives Again
Nick Cave’s Grinderman side project is being reissued with all three albums, accompanied by a stunning vinyl series. Also announced this year: the film Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Live in Paris, which debuted back in March, is drawing strong reactions.
His career might be restless and moody, but it’s never still.

The Beatles – White Vinyl, Surprise Gigs & Anniversary Pressings
There’s never really a quiet month with The Beatles. Paul McCartney recently performed an unannounced gig at the Bowery Ballroom in New York, and fans are still processing it.
On the reissue front, the 60th anniversary edition of A Hard Day’s Night is due on white vinyl this October, plus the 2023 reissues of Red and Blue compilations are still going strong.

David Bowie – Centre Opening & A Live Aid Legacy
A new David Bowie Centre opens September 13, 2025, at the V&A East Storehouse—a permanent home for his costumes, handwritten lyrics, and video archives.
Just this week, a Live Aid founder credited Bowie’s 1985 set with spiking donations during the legendary concert. His influence hasn’t faded, it’s shifting into the museum era, yes, but it’s still felt.

Fleetwood Mac – 50 Years of the 1975 Album & A New Book Incoming
Their 1975 self-titled album is now 9x platinum—and turns 50 this month. To mark the moment, a new book titled Don’t Stop: Why We (Still) Love Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours is set for release on 4 November 2025.
If you ever needed an excuse to revisit Rhiannon, this is probably it.

Looking Ahead – Why It All Matters
These aren’t random stories; they signal how major artists are continuing to shape culture, even decades later. Reissues aren’t just cash-ins; they often bring new remasters, liner notes, and interest from younger fans. And for collectors or longtime followers, they offer a reason to re-engage.
In a world where streaming can feel shapeless, news like this provides us with musical milestones to hold onto. It’s why I make the maps. These stories, these releases—they belong somewhere visual. Somewhere you can trace, study, and hang on your wall.
