The Charlatans Albums in Order: 14 Studio Albums, 1990 to 2025
The Charlatans albums in order run from Some Friendly (1990) to We Are Love (2025), 14 studio albums across 35 years. On my discography map each album is a station and each credited musician is a line running only through the records they actually played on, which is how a single chart shows people arriving, leaving and coming back.
The 14 Charlatans studio albums in order
This list is transcribed from my own research sheet, the same one the artwork was drawn from, in the order the album columns run:

Those 14 are the studio records only. Live albums, compilations and singles collections are all left off, as they are across my whole range. Tim Burgess's two solo albums, I Believe (2003) and Oh No I Love You (2012), sit alongside the band's route on the print rather than inside this sequence, and my research sheet keeps them in their own block.
Three chairs that changed hands, and the map shows all three
Read across the chart and the band's succession story tells itself without a caption. The guitar chair changes first: John Baker plays on the debut and then stops, and Mark Collins picks the line up at Between 10th and 11th in 1992 and has held it ever since, 13 albums.
The keyboard chair changes next, and it is the hardest detail on the map to plot. Rob Collins's organ line runs through five albums and ends at Tellin' Stories (1997), recorded at Rockfield after he died in a car accident in 1996. Martin Duffy of Primal Scream appears on that album only, one branch line arriving to finish the keyboards. Tony Rogers takes the chair from Us and Us Only (1999) and holds it for nine.
The drum chair changes last. Jon Brookes plays on 11 albums, Some Friendly through to Who We Touch (2010), and died in 2013. Rather than name one replacement the band used guests on Modern Nature, which is why three drum lines arrive at that station at once: Pete Salisbury of The Verve, Stephen Morris of New Order and Gabriel Gurnsey of Factory Floor. Salisbury stays for the next two records.
Two lines run the full width, and most of the rest touch one station
Tim Burgess and Martin Blunt are both credited on all 14 Charlatans studio albums, which makes theirs the two lines that cross the whole print without a break. Mark Collins is one short, missing only the 1990 debut.
Below those three the sheet turns into branch lines. Only nine musicians on the whole map are credited on more than one record. Everybody else appears on exactly one: somebody credited on a single Charlatans album and nowhere else in 35 years.

Different Days is the most guest-heavy record in the catalogue
Different Days (2017) is where the chart fills up, and most of the names on it are there once. Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, New Order's Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert, Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Donald Johnson of A Certain Ratio and Kurt Wagner of Lambchop all arrive as branch lines.
Two of those names are not musicians at all. The crime novelist Ian Rankin and the writer and actor Sharon Horgan are both credited on that record, so both get a line. That is the sort of detail I would not have believed until the credits were in front of me, and the reason I keep a research sheet rather than working from a tracklist.
Wonderland brought in Daniel Lanois and Jim Keltner
Wonderland (2001) is the other station worth stopping at. The band went for a Los Angeles soul record and the credits show it: Daniel Lanois, who had produced U2 and Bob Dylan, and Jim Keltner, one of the most recorded session drummers alive, both appear here and on no other Charlatans record. Stacy Plunk and Yvonne Marx are there too.
Contrast that with You Cross My Path (2008): the band and nobody else, five names on my sheet. That swing, from a thin five-piece column to a record that pulls in a novelist and a Smith, is the kind of thing a transit map draws and a discography list cannot.
Who gets a line on We Are Love, and who does not
We Are Love (2025) is a clean demonstration of the one rule that decides every line on every map I draw. A producer or an engineer only gets a line if they are also credited playing or singing something.
On this record Dev Hynes of Blood Orange is credited with production and synthesizer, and Fred Macpherson with production and backing vocals, so both are on the chart. Evie Clark-Yospa is credited with engineering and backing vocals, so she is on it too. Matt Colton and Craig Silvey are credited for engineering alone, so neither appears, however central they were to how the album sounds. Three engineering credits on one album, and the rule sorts them without me having to make a judgement call.
The band went back to Rockfield for it, the studio where they lost Rob Collins. It is the newest stop on a line that has now been running 35 years.

Jon Brookes drummed on the first 11 Charlatans albums, from Some Friendly (1990) to Who We Touch (2010). He collapsed on stage in 2010, was diagnosed with a brain tumour and died in 2013. His line ends at Who We Touch, and Modern Nature (2015) is the first album without him.
What is not on the Charlatans map?
Live albums, compilations and singles collections are all off it, along with anything released after the artwork was drawn. Engineers are off it too unless they sing or play: the line rule is why Evie Clark-Yospa appears on We Are Love and Matt Colton and Craig Silvey do not.
