What Is on My Music Map?

The map covers ten studio albums and shows the named contributors across them. It starts with the steady presence of Jimmy Carter on bass and Steve Brewster on drums, particularly across the earlier records. Over time the line-ups widen out, taking in bluegrass players, harmony vocalists and guest artists.

Each musician runs as a coloured line tracking their appearances across the albums. None of it is guesswork. It is built from my own spreadsheet research, where I document the studio credits before anything is drawn. The finished map stays visually simple while still showing who played what, and when.

Why I Designed This Music Map

What interested me here was not the solo artist so much as how much the records lean on skilled session players and recurring collaborators. The instrumentation changes a good deal between albums, particularly around Up on the Ridge and The Mountain, and yet there is a thread running through all of it. Mapping it is what made that thread visible. This map is less about chart positions and more about showing the whole team behind each record.
