A gift for Levellers fans who are tired of the band being written off as a festival novelty, because this maps seventeen records and four lines run every single one of them. They own the records already. Almost no band I have mapped manages that.

Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Produced in A1 only, with US sizing at 36 x 24 in, unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.

I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.

The stations run chronologically from All the Free Commons of England in 1988 to Together All the Way in 2023.

Why this Levellers discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep

Most of the maps I draw are about churn. This one is the opposite, and that is what makes it worth hanging.

Not an algorithm - every connection on this map was made by hand, by an obsessive fan. Working just down the road from Brighton, this is one I had been meaning to draw for years.

Contributing musicians on the map

Mark Chadwick, Jeremy Cunningham, Jonathan Sevink and Charlie Heather are credited on all seventeen stations. Thirty-five years and not one break in any of those four lines.

Jeremy Cunningham carries a second credit almost the whole way across as well, because he does the album artwork, which I don't get to draw very often.

Alan Miles plays on the first two records and then leaves, and Simon Friend arrives at Levelling the Land in 1991 and has been there since. Matt Savage takes the keyboard chair across the later albums.

Zeitgeist carries the credit fans always stop at. Joe Strummer plays the piano on Just the One.

Elsewhere, the branch lines are exactly what you would hope for from this band, with Jem Finer of the Pogues on hurdy-gurdy, Steve Boakes on didgeridoo across several records, Callum Williams on bagpipes and Eddi Reader on backing vocals.

We, the Collective, bring in the London Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Kick Horns appear on two separate albums.

How do I make each print?

Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Produced in A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.

FAQ

How many albums are on the map?
Seventeen releases, from 1988 to 2023.

Has the line-up really not changed?
Four members are credited on every station. Alan Miles leaves after the second record and Simon Friend joins at the fourth, and after that the core holds.

Is Joe Strummer on the map?
Yes, playing piano on one track of Zeitgeist.

Why is the bass player credited twice?
Because Jeremy Cunningham does the artwork as well, and the sleeves credit him for both.

What size is it?
A1 only, 841 x 594 mm, with a US equivalent of 36 x 24 in. The density of the credits needs the larger sheet to stay legible.

What are the framing options?
Unframed, or supplied framed and ready to hang.
