Hawkwind Albums in Order and Every Musician (1970–2025)
by Mike Bell
·
I’ve mapped Hawkwind Albums in order, tracking every credited musician and guest performer from their 1970 debut right through to their 2025 release. This blog post provides the complete album list in order and highlights the key contributors across more than five decades of psychedelic and space rock evolution.

Each album is represented on my Hawkwind music map, with every contributor visualised as a connecting “line” running through the band’s sprawling history.

Core Members Across the Decades
Hawkwind’s line-up has always been fluid. But several long-serving members define key periods of their sound:
- Dave Brock – The only constant presence from the beginning, appearing on every single studio album. Guitar, vocals, keyboards, and synths—he’s the spine of Hawkwind.
- Nik Turner's early sax and flute work helped shape the band’s psychedelic edge. He appeared on albums from 1970 to 1976 and returned later in live collaborations.
- Robert Calvert – Vocalist and lyricist who fronted the band through the mid-to-late 1970s. His theatrical and science fiction style shaped Quark, PXR5, and 25 Years On.
- Simon House, Huw Lloyd-Langton, Tim Blake, Harvey Bainbridge, and Alan Davey are just a few others who have contributed long stints with keyboards, guitars, and bass.
The number of different musicians featured across the 38 albums exceeds 80, with many appearing only on a single release.
Guest Appearances & One-Off Contributors
- Lemmy Kilmister played bass and sang during a brief but vital period (1972–1975), including on "Doremi Fasol Latido" and "Warrior on the Edge of Time".
- Ginger Baker of Cream performed on drums for the 1980s' Levitation.
- The album Road to Utopia (2018) featured orchestral arrangements and acoustic reinterpretations of classic material with guests like Eric Clapton.
Musicians by Album – A Data Breakdown
I’ve tracked the number of unique contributors on each album. A few patterns emerge:
- Albums like Church of Hawkwind and Spacebrock are largely solo projects by Dave Brock.
- In Search of Space and Warrior on the Edge of Time show the band at full strength, with 6–8 credited musicians.
- The 2020s albums maintain a stable core of 3–5 people, mostly long-time collaborators.

This research is visualised in my Hawkwind Discography Music Map, where each musician is represented by a coloured line running across albums, much like stations on a tube map. You can:
- Trace every line-up change
- Spot return appearances
- Compare dense periods with solo-heavy records.
