A gift for New Order fans who could not tell you which of the ten albums Peter Hook is actually on, because this draws every credited musician as a line across the whole run. They own the records already. His bass stops one album before the end, and you can see exactly where.

Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Produced unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.

I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.

Ten stations run chronologically from Movement in 1981, through Power, Corruption & Lies and Technique, to Music Complete in 2015.

Why this New Order discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep

Only two names reach both ends of this map. Everyone else arrives, leaves or comes back, and the print is the only place you can see all of that at once.

Not an algorithm - every connection on this map was made by hand, by an obsessive fan. Working from the sleeve credits is how a backing vocalist turns up twice, fourteen years apart.

Contributing musicians on the map

Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris are the two unbroken lines, credited on all ten albums. Peter Hook plays on nine, from Movement through to Lost Sirens in 2013, and is absent from Music Complete.

Gillian Gilbert is on eight. Her line breaks for Waiting for the Sirens' Call and Lost Sirens, then rejoins for Music Complete, so the gap is as visible as the return.

Phil Cunningham joins on guitar at Get Ready in 2001 and stays to the end. Tom Chapman takes over on bass for Music Complete.

Get Ready is where the branch lines get interesting. Billy Corgan sings on one track, Bobby Gillespie on another, Andrew Innes of Primal Scream plays guitar, and Pete Davis handles programming across nine of the album's tracks.

Music Complete opens wider still, with Iggy Pop, Brandon Flowers, La Roux, an Italian-speaking vocalist, Giacomo Cavagna, and Joe Duddell conducting strings from the Manchester Camerata.

Dawn Zee is the quiet one to look for. She sings backing vocals on Get Ready and again on Music Complete, fourteen years apart, and on nothing in between.

How do I make each print?

Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.
