EMPTY DOM REMOVE PROTECTOR

In short: A Dire Straits discography tube map art print that charts the studio albums as a London Underground map, with stations for Dire Straits, Making Movies, Brothers in Arms and On Every Street along the line. A considered gift for Dire Straits fans and music lovers, ready to frame and give. Giclée on 230gsm textured matte fine art paper, archival and acid-free. Available in A2 or A1 (US sizing 18x24in and 24x36in), unframed or in a black wooden frame. Hand-researched and designed by me in East Sussex.

I designed this Dire Straits discography map so the studio albums run as a single line, each one its own station, drawn in the style of a classic tube map. The route moves from the pub-rock debut Dire Straits, through Making Movies, to the blockbuster Brothers in Arms and the final On Every Street, then continues into John Illsley's own solo albums as a connected second line. It is wall art for fans who know every solo, and a ready-made gift for anyone who came in through the hits.

Why this Dire Straits discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep

If you are buying for a Dire Straits fan, this goes past the obvious present. I research every map by hand, checking release dates and running order so the line is right, which lets the person receiving it follow the band's route across the decades and into John Illsley's solo work. It makes a birthday or Christmas gift for the Dire Straits fan in your life, the kind of present that gets framed and kept rather than opened once and shelved.

Contributing musicians on the map

Mark Knopfler and John Illsley run as the constant line through the band's studio albums, with Illsley's bass and vocals continuing into his solo catalogue. Brothers in Arms in 1985 brings in Sting on guest vocals for "Money for Nothing" and Roy Bittan, of Springsteen's E Street Band, on keyboards. On Every Street in 1991 carries a string arrangement credited to George Martin. Illsley's solo records add further guest names, including Vince Gill on guitar and backing vocals.

How I make each print

Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or supplied in a black wooden frame, ready to hang as art prints in a hallway, living room or studio.
