What makes Bowie's discography so rich to map isn't just the albums; it's the musicians. More than 160 credited musicians appear across the studio albums on the map, Bowie himself included. Some are constellation players who reappear across decades.
Carlos Alomar features on 11 Bowie albums, threading from Young Americans in 1975 through to Reality in 2003. Mike Garson appears on 11, his Aladdin Sane piano work travelling all the way to Reality. Tony Visconti played on 9 albums, in addition to producing many more.
Then there are the one-off and short-burst collaborators, such as Keith Christmas on Space Oddity, Tim Renwick on the early albums before he moved on to Pink Floyd and Elton John, and the jazz players Bowie brought in for Blackstar. Every one becomes a line on the map, traced exactly across the albums they appeared on. Long-serving collaborators thread across decades, while one-off contributors appear as short branch lines into a single album.

How I Designed the Map
The Bowie map was deeply researched and hand-designed over several months. Every musician on every studio album was placed and verified individually from credited sources, including sleeve notes, session records and archival music references, before any layout work began. The map is then built using professional CAD software for the line precision a London Underground style demands, and printed as a Giclée art print at A2 and A1 size. No AI is used at any stage.

Live albums, compilations and soundtracks. The map plots studio records only, and it stops at Blackstar in 2016, so the posthumous Toy has no station on it.
