Contributing musicians on the map

Linda McCartney has the longest line after Paul, running from the 1970 debut through the entire Wings catalogue and on into the late 1980s. Denny Laine is next, from Wild Life in 1971 through to Pipes of Peace in 1983.

Wings never held a line-up for long, and the drum chair shows it. Denny Seiwell, Geoff Britton, Joe English, and Steve Holley each take a short run, and the guitar chair passes from Henry McCullough to Jimmy McCulloch to Laurence Juber.

Band on the Run is a much smaller station than its reputation suggests. It is essentially three people, with Howie Casey on saxophone and Ginger Baker on percussion on Picasso's Last Words.

Tug of War in 1982 opens the map right up, bringing in Stevie Wonder, Ringo Starr, Carl Perkins, Stanley Clarke, Steve Gadd and George Martin on piano. Pipes of Peace follows with Michael Jackson on two tracks and a children's choir on the title song.

Press to Play features the oddest pairing on the print: Pete Townshend on guitar and Phil Collins on drums on the same track, alongside Carlos Alomar and Tony Visconti. Flowers in the Dirt brings in Elvis Costello, David Gilmour, Nicky Hopkins and Trevor Horn.

Flaming Pie is the busiest station of all, with Steve Miller, Jeff Lynne, Ringo Starr and a full orchestra under George Martin. Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, by contrast, is Nigel Godrich and a handful of players.

The three Fireman records are the sparsest, essentially Paul and Youth. The map closes at The Boys of Dungeon Lane in 2026, with Ringo Starr on drums and backing vocals, Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri singing, and Andrew Watt co-producing.

James McCartney appears on three albums, first as a spoken word credit and later on guitar and percussion.
