I did not research this one, I lived it. Every other map I make comes out of archives and liner notes, and this one came out of two decades of standing at the back of rehearsal rooms.

Why this event production process tube map makes a gift producers keep

On a live job you only ever see your own line. The producer sees one route through it, the designer another, the AV lead another again, and almost nobody sees the whole network at once.

What the map shows

Every production role runs as its own line. Producer, director, designer, AV lead, show caller and runner each take a route through the job, and the interest is in where they cross rather than where they run alone.

The stations are the milestones. First client brief, creative kick-off, design development, venue recce, build, rehearsal, show days and de-rig.

Drawn out, the shape says something about how creative work actually happens. The lines converge hardest well before the show, around the kick-off and design development, and by the time you reach the show days most of the decisions have already been made.

Anyone who has done the job will recognise their own line immediately, and probably argue with where I have put someone else's.
