A gift for Nick Cave fans who have never been able to hold four decades and four band names in one picture, because this puts all 25 albums on a single map with every credited musician as their own line. They have the records already, and this is the shape the records do not show.
Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Produced unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.
I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.
The stations run chronologically from Door, Door in 1979 with The Boys Next Door, through The Birthday Party, the long Bad Seeds run and both Grinderman records, to Wild God in 2024.
Why this Nick Cave discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep
Cave's career runs under four different names, and most fans hold only one or two of those clearly. The map puts all of them on one sheet, so you can see who carried through and who did not.
Working from liner notes and session archives, I traced each player across the records they actually appear on. The full story on your wall, rather than four separate stories on four separate shelves.
Contributing musicians on the map
Mick Harvey has the longest reach on the map. His line runs from Door, Door in 1979 all the way to Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! in 2008, with a single break at Grinderman in 2007.
Warren Ellis has the longest unbroken run. He joins at Let Love In in 1994 and does not miss a record after it, fourteen albums through to Wild God.
Blixa Bargeld, of Einstürzende Neubauten, holds twelve albums from From Her to Eternity in 1984 to Nocturama in 2003. Thomas Wydler and Martyn P. Casey are the other two long lines, both threading through the Bad Seeds era with occasional gaps.
The two extremes of the map sit close together. Murder Ballads in 1996 is the busiest station on the print with 24 credited musicians, and CARNAGE in 2021 is the emptiest with just two.
Murder Ballads is also where the shortest branch lines cluster. PJ Harvey, Kylie Minogue and Shane MacGowan each appear on that record and on no other in the catalogue.
How I make each print
Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.
| Size | UK | USA / CAN / AUS equivalent | Orientation |
