A gift for Crowded House fans who could not say which records Tim Finn is actually on, because this maps ten albums, including both Finn Brothers records, and his line comes and goes across them. They own the records already. Only Neil Finn's line runs all ten.
Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Produced unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.
I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.
The stations run chronologically from the 1986 debut to Gravity Stairs in 2024, with the two Finn Brothers albums set in sequence alongside the Crowded House ones.
Why this Crowded House discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep
Two brothers, one band, and a line that keeps crossing between them. Drawn out flat, the Finn relationship is the shape of the whole map rather than a footnote to it.
The guest credits are the other reason to stand in front of it. It rewards every closer look.
Contributing musicians on the map
Neil Finn is credited on all ten albums. Nick Seymour holds the bass across the Crowded House records, and Mark Hart and Mitchell Froom both run long lines through the middle of the catalogue.
Tim Finn's line is the one to follow. He sings backing vocals on the debut, joins properly for Woodface, leaves again, and then takes half of both Finn Brothers' albums.
Finn, the 1995 album, is the sparsest station on the print. It credits the two brothers and nobody else at all.
Paul Hester drums on the first four albums and sings lead on Italian Plastic. His line ends there, and he died in 2005. Matt Sherrod takes the drum chair on the later records.
The guest list is stranger than the band's reputation suggests. Richard Thompson plays the guitar solo on Sister Madly, and Joe Satriani appears on backing vocals rather than guitar.
One track of the debut brings in Jim Keltner on drums and Jerry Scheff on bass. Elsewhere, the map picks up Alex Acuña on percussion, David Hidalgo on accordion, Ricky Fataar of the Beach Boys on drums, and Eddie Rayner of Split Enz on keyboards.
Sharon Finn sings across several records, and the Finn Brothers albums draw in Tony Visconti, Jon Brion, Pete Thomas and Don McGlashan.
How do I make each print?
Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.
| Size | UK | USA / CAN / AUS equivalent | Orientation |
|---|---|---|---|
| A2 | 594 x 420 mm (23 x 16 in) | 24 x 18 in | Landscape |
| A1 | 841 x 594 mm (33 x 23 in) | 36 x 24 in | Landscape |
FAQ
How many albums are on the map?
Ten. The eight Crowded House albums from 1986 to 2024, plus both Finn Brothers records.
Which albums is Tim Finn on?
His line breaks and rejoins more than once, which is much easier to see drawn out than it is to remember.
Which album has the fewest musicians?
Finn, from 1995, which credits only the two brothers.
Is Richard Thompson really on a Crowded House record?
Yes, playing the guitar solo on Sister Madly.
Is Joe Satriani on it?
He is on backing vocals, which is not what anyone expects.
What are the framing options?
Unframed, or supplied framed and ready to hang.
