Why this Shining plot map art makes a gift fans keep
A gift for The Shining fans who have argued about the film for years without ever seeing it laid out, this charts the whole 1980 film as a London Underground map, with the characters as lines and every key scene as a station. They have the poster already. This is the descent drawn as a route.

I mapped Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror so that the beats inside the Overlook Hotel become stations, drawn in the style of a classic London Underground map. Jack Torrance's slow disintegration runs parallel to Wendy, young Danny and his gift, the Overlook chef Dick Hallorann, and the spectral cast of the hotel.
The Shining is a film people rewatch for its details, then struggle to describe as a whole. This puts the whole descent on one sheet, so the order of events and their overlaps are finally visible.
I built it from a scene-by-scene pass through the film rather than from a synopsis. It rewards every closer look.
Characters and key plot points on the map
Jack Torrance, played by Jack Nicholson, forms the central line, with Wendy Torrance, played by Shelley Duvall, and their son Danny, played by Danny Lloyd, running alongside him through the Overlook's isolation.
Scatman Crothers plays Dick Hallorann, the hotel chef who shares Danny's psychic gift and returns partway through the film.
Key stations include the Overlook's opening tour, the “All work and no play” typewriter reveal, and the hedge maze finale.
