Why this Cody Johnson discography tube map art makes a gift fans keep
A discography gift for Cody Johnson fans who keep getting told this is just rodeo music, because this maps nine albums and puts Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss and Brooks and Dunn on the same print. They own the records already. The first four albums credit almost nobody at all.
Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Produced unframed or framed. Deeply researched and designed by me in East Sussex.
I plot these in CAD software. Every credited musician becomes a transit line, every album becomes a station, and anyone who appears only once gets a branch line of their own.
The stations run chronologically from Live and Rocking in 2007 to Leather in 2023.
Very few maps I draw change scale this hard. The independent records at the start carry one or two credited names, and by 2021, a single album carries forty-three.
It rewards every closer look, because the jump happens across two stations rather than gradually.
Contributing musicians on the map
Cody Johnson is credited on all nine albums. The early independent records are nearly empty, with Carl Johnson, Sheila Johnson and Brion Bursey among the very few names on them.
Ain't Nothin' to It in 2019 is where the Nashville session world arrives. Adam Shoenfeld, Carl Miner, Jim "Moose" Brown, Jimmie Lee Sloas, Jenee Fleenor and Scotty Sanders all join at once, and Alison Krauss sings and plays fiddle on one track.
Human: The Double Album is the densest station by a distance, with forty three credited musicians. Willie Nelson and Mickey Raphael appear on it, alongside Ingrid Andress, Corb Lund, Rhonda Vincent, Red Steagall and Ned LeDoux.
Leather brings in Brooks & Dunn, the last of the big guest lines to land on the map.
Trent Willmon runs quietly through much of it as producer and player, and Justin Ostrander, Jake Mears, Jody Bartula and Joey Pruski hold the band together across the later records.
Print Specifications:
Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years. Choose A2 or A1, unframed or framed, ready to hang in a hallway, living room or studio.
