They own the records already. On two of these stations, the entire band is hiding behind false surnames.

Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper, textured matte, archival and acid-free. Drawn out like this, they are five separate lines with very different lengths, and the bass and drum chairs change hands repeatedly while the guitar and keyboards never do.

It rewards every closer look, particularly around 1988, when four famous names turn up under invented ones.

Contributing musicians on the map

Mike Campbell on guitar and Benmont Tench on keyboards are the two constants beside Petty, running from the 1976 debut to the last records. Ron Blair, Howie Epstein, Stan Lynch, Steve Ferrone and Scott Thurston fill the other chairs on a rotating basis.

The two Traveling Wilburys stations are the strangest things in the print because everyone is credited under a fake name. Petty is Charlie T. Wilbury Jr and later Muddy; George Harrison is Nelson and then Spike; Jeff Lynne is Otis then Clayton; Bob Dylan is Lucky then Boo; and Roy Orbison is Lefty.

Jim Keltner drums on the first of those albums as Buster Sidebury, and Gary Moore appears on the second as Ken Wilbury, playing lead guitar on one track.

Southern Accents is the densest station. Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics plays bass, guitar and sitar across it, Garth Hudson and Richard Manuel of The Band appear on one track, and Jack Nitzsche arranges strings.

Hard Promises brings in Stevie Nicks, and Echo brings in Lindsey Buckingham, so both halves of that partnership appear on this map eighteen years apart. Roger McGuinn of the Byrds and Richard Tandy of ELO both play on Into the Great Wide Open.

Wildflowers adds Ringo Starr on one track, Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys on another, and a Michael Kamen orchestration. Full Moon Fever credits Del Shannon with barnyard noises and a child with a scream on Zombie Zoo.

Randall Marsh has the longest gap on the print. He drums on one track of the 1976 debut, disappears entirely, and comes back for both Mudcrutch albums thirty-two years later.

How do I make each print?

Each one is a Giclée on 230gsm premium fine art paper with a textured matte finish, archival and acid-free, so the colours hold for years.
