Levellers Art Print - Every Album and Musician

For Levellers fans, few things carry more nostalgia than following the band's evolution through their studio discography. I have recently updated The Levellers Art Print, Albums in Order, every studio album, every recording artist.

It is more than wall decoration. It is a researched visual archive that turns a thirty-five year recording history into something you can read at a glance.

Mapping the Levellers Legacy

The idea behind the print is to chart the band's history using the structural logic of a tube map.

Here is what the print shows:

  1. The complete discography. You can follow every album from All the Free Commons of England (1988) through to Together All the Way (2023). Each release is a station, taking you chronologically through the records that built their sound.
  2. Every credited musician. The map is built around the personnel. Every core member, session musician and guest is a connecting line, tracing their path in and out of the recording sessions. One-off contributors appear as branch lines.

Design Precision Rooted in Research

The detail in this map comes from slow, dedicated research. I am Mike Bell, and I turn verified data, from studio session logs and band line-ups to release timelines, into data-driven prints.

Every map, including the Levellers print, is researched and drawn entirely by hand. I spend hours working through verified album credits, archival releases and trusted sources, cross-checking anything that does not agree between them. That is what makes the map a reliable visual archive rather than a decorative approximation.

The Shape of This One

Most of the maps I draw are about churn. This one is the opposite. Mark Chadwick, Jeremy Cunningham, Jonathan Sevink and Charlie Heather are credited on all seventeen stations, which is thirty-five years without a single break in any of those four lines. Almost no band I have mapped manages that.

Alan Miles plays on the first two records and then leaves. Simon Friend arrives at Levelling the Land in 1991 and has been there ever since. And the credit fans always stop at is on Zeitgeist: Joe Strummer playing piano on Just the One.

Print Quality

Each print is an archival-quality Giclée on 230gsm premium acid-free matte fine art paper, produced on demand for detail, colour accuracy and longevity.

This map is produced in A1 only (594x841mm), with US sizing at 36x24in, because the density of the credits needs the larger sheet to stay legible. It is supplied unframed or ready to hang in a black wood frame.

Whether you have followed the Levellers for years or are working through the catalogue for the first time, the map gives you a way into it. Hang it up, argue with it, and follow the lines.

FAQs

How many albums have the Levellers released?

Thirteen studio albums between 1990 and 2023. The map runs to seventeen stations, because it also carries the earlier and related releases from 1988 onwards.

Have the Levellers changed line-up much?

Remarkably little, and it is one of the reasons they map so cleanly. Alan Miles left after the first two records, but the core four have been on every station since. On most discography maps the lines fray as the decades pass. On this one they run almost straight.

What is their most famous album?

Levelling the Land (1991) is the fan favourite, and Zeitgeist (1995) was their commercial peak, reaching number one in the UK.

What size is the print?

A1 only, 594x841mm, or 36x24in in US sizing, unframed or in a black wood frame, from £42.00.

Final Thoughts: A Band of Consistency and Conviction

Across thirteen studio albums the Levellers have resisted commercial pressure, held their line, and kept evolving anyway. That line-up stability is rare, and it makes them one of the more satisfying bands to chart visually. The whole journey is in the map, for collectors, folk-rock fans and anyone with a soft spot for protest music history.
