I have mapped the Hawkwind albums in order, tracking every credited musician and guest performer from the 1970 debut through to the 2025 release. This post gives the complete album list in order and picks out the key contributors across more than five decades of psychedelic and space rock.
Each album is a station on my Hawkwind music map, with every contributor drawn as a line running through the band's sprawling history.

Here is the complete list of the 39 albums included in the map:

- Carnivorous (as Hawkwind Light Orchestra, 2020)
- Somnia (2021)
- We Are Looking In On You (2022)
- We Are Looking In On You Too (2023)
- The Future Never Waits (2023)
- Stories from Time and Space (2024)
- There Is No Space for Us (2025)
A word on that list. Across the rest of my range I map studio records only, and leave live albums and compilations off by editorial rule. Hawkwind is the band that makes that rule difficult. Several releases are part live and part studio, recorded on stage and then rebuilt in the studio to the point where separating them would misrepresent the catalogue. Where a release sits on that line I have flagged it above rather than quietly dropped it.
Core Members Across the Decades
Hawkwind's line-up has always been fluid, but several long-serving members define particular periods of the sound:
- Dave Brock, the only constant presence from the beginning, appearing on every album. Guitar, vocals, keyboards and synths. He is the spine of the map as well as the band, and the only line that runs the full length without a break.
- Nik Turner, whose early sax and flute work shaped the psychedelic edge. He appears on albums from 1970 to 1976 and returned later in live collaborations.
- Robert Calvert, vocalist and lyricist who fronted the band through the mid to late 1970s. His theatrical science fiction style shaped Quark, Strangeness and Charm, PXR5 and 25 Years On.
- Simon House, Huw Lloyd-Langton, Tim Blake, Harvey Bainbridge and Alan Davey are among the others who contributed long stints on keyboards, guitars and bass.
More than 80 different musicians appear across the 39 albums, many of them on a single release. That density is the reason this map took longer to plot than almost anything else in the range.
Guest Appearances and One-Off Contributors
- Lemmy Kilmister played bass and sang during a brief but vital period from 1972 to 1975, including on Doremi Fasol Latido and Warrior on the Edge of Time, before leaving to form Motörhead.
- Ginger Baker of Cream played drums on Levitation in 1980.
- Road to Utopia (2018) featured orchestral arrangements and acoustic reworkings of older material, with Eric Clapton playing dobro on The Watcher.
Musicians by Album, a Data Breakdown
I tracked the number of contributors on each album, and a few patterns come out of it:
- Church of Hawkwind and Spacebrock are largely solo Dave Brock projects, and on the map they narrow to almost nothing.
- In Search of Space and Warrior on the Edge of Time show the band at full strength, with six to eight credited musicians.
- The 2020s albums hold a stable core of three to five people, mostly long-standing collaborators.

All of this research sits in my Hawkwind Discography Music Map, where each musician is a coloured line running across the albums like a tube route. You can:
- Trace every line-up change
- Spot the returns, sometimes decades apart
- Compare the dense periods with the solo-heavy records
